10 Vegetables and aromatic herbs that you can grow in a glass of water

Growing herbs and vegetables at home is a beautiful experience that is very pleasant and extremely practical. Many of them can start their growth even in water so we will not need pots or substrate, at least at first.

It is an easy and very clean grow, and one that children will love because of how amazing it is to be able to see the roots of the plant. It is of course the only way to see a plant in its entirety, both its aerial part and the underground part that is usually covered by the earth.

Basil

Basil is one of the most widely used aromatic herbs, especially in Italian cuisine, and we can grow it in a glass of water. We cut some stems of about 10 cm in length. We put them in a container with water and we can keep them there until the roots measure around 5 cm, then we will have to plant the basil in a pot with substrate or in the ground.

Oregano

Oregano can also be reproduced by cuttings by introducing them in water. You will need a temperature of 18-21º C and a lot of sun. It should be borne in mind that oregano that is grown in a pot, or in this case in water, tolerates the cold worse than that grown in the ground.

Rosemary

Rosemary can also be placed in water to root it. We will cut some stems of about 15 cm and we will leave only the leaves of the upper part. In 1 to 2 weeks the roots should begin to appear. At that time, the rosemary will have to be planted in the ground or in a pot.

Parsley

Parsley can not be missing in the kitchen. This aromatic herb is easy to grow and we can also start its propagation by placing it in a container with water. We will change the water every few days as soon as we see that it takes color. When the roots appear we will move the seedlings to a pot or to the garden.

Mint

Mint, especially in spring and summer, is very easy to propagate in this way. We will cut some stems and put them in a glass with water next to a window. In hot weather we will see that it begins to take root after a few days, in winter it can take up to 2 weeks.

Balm

6 4

In the same way we will act with lemon balm. Cut some 5-7.5 cm long stems and leave only the top leaves. You will need a good exposure to light and that we change the water every few days.

Stevia

Stevia, so fashionable today, can also start its growth in a simple glass of water. We can wait for it to have a good rooting as we see in the example before planting it in the ground. Then we can take advantage of its sweetening virtues as a substitute for sugar.

Lettuce

We can also take advantage of the trunk of the lettuce that we have bought to make it grow back. We place the stem in a flat plate or container with about 2.5 cm of water and put it in the sun. Every 1-2 days we will change the water and after 10-12 days it will have put on new leaves, although of course it will never reach its previous size.

Celery

With the celery we can do exactly the same, we leave about 5 cm of stem and place it in a container with water, water that we will change every day. In a week it should have taken root and we can plant it in the garden or in a pot with a substrate rich in organic matter.

Spinach

Spinach can also be reproduced this way. We will need fresh stems, a root growth stimulant, and water. In about 10 days in water they should take root enough so that we can plant them in the ground or in a pot.
